Jung Kyung Ho Spills the Details on 'Pro Bono'

In "Pro Bono," Jung Kyung Ho transforms into Kang David, a former judge who is the epitome of success, decisive, witty, and a veritable celebrity on social media with hundreds of thousands of followers. However, his glamorous life shatters due to an unexpected incident, leading him to a fate he never imagined, being trapped in a large law firm's pro bono team, a division that earns zero revenue and is completely overlooked.

So, what was the magnetic pull that made Jung Kyung Ho choose this specific drama? The answer lies in the character's compelling journey.

“I was drawn to the story of Kang David, a materialistic judge who joins a pro bono team and gradually changes and grows as he begins to care for the public good," Jung Kyung Ho shared.

But it wasn't just the overarching narrative that captured his attention, it was the very specific way Kang David operates. Jung Kyung Ho pinpointed the unique charm of his character.

“Kang David has a unique charm in the way he persuades others with his own logic. When you listen to him, you naturally find yourself drawn into what he’s saying," he continued.

To authentically capture this transformative arc, the actor's preparation was meticulous. He focused intensely on portraying the gradual shift in David's persona.

“I wanted to naturally show the shifts in his emotional arc and attitude as a self-centered and materialistic person transforms into someone who cares about others and the public good,” he shared.

This dedication extended to the finest details, as he even adjusted “the tone of his voice, facial expressions, and breathing, to match the flow.”

When quizzed about any personal similarities with his character, Jung Kyung Ho was quick to playfully deflect, noting, “Since Kang David is a character who changes after joining the pro bono team, he’s not exactly a nice person by nature,” before adding with a joke, “So I don’t think we have much in common.”

The Stellar Cast and Unwavering Optimism in 'Pro Bono'

Of course, Jung Kyung Ho doesn't navigate this chaotic legal world alone. He is joined by a dynamic and colorful ensemble cast that makes up the misfit pro bono team. The cheerful Park Ki Bbeum, played by So Ju Yeon, is sure to brighten the office with her smile, while the cynically calm Yoo Nan Hee, portrayed by Seo Hye Won, exudes a quiet confidence. Rounding out the team are Jang Young Sil (Yoon Na Moo), who gives off a warm impression, and the neatly dressed and composed Hwang Joon Woo (Kang Hyung Suk).

This group is perfectly described by the drama's tagline: “A messed-up career and an even messier team… pro bono of the misfits.”

Despite Kang David's dramatic fall from a prestigious judgeship to a shabby, sun-deprived office for unpaid legal work, Jung Kyung Ho assures us that his character's core composure remains unshaken. Stills from the drama show that whether he's before a crowd of reporters as Judge Kang David, projecting confidence with an unwavering smile, or as a public interest lawyer radiating the same self-assured presence, the man's essence persists.

The look in his eyes in his new role, one that says, “I am who I am,” hints at an optimistically chaotic and entertaining journey ahead as he adapts to his new reality.

Jung Kyung Ho promises that the early bickering scenes between Kang David and his new teammates will be a major highlight, showcasing the friction and eventual camaraderie that develops. Mark your calendars, because this unique courtroom chaos is set to premiere on December 6 at 9:10 p.m. KST.

Honestly, I have a feeling it’s going to be both! The funny bickering is what will draw us in, but the emotional growth and the team becoming a family is what will make us cry. I’m already getting attached!:kissing_face_with_closed_eyes:
