Disney Plus reveals the first look at The Remarried Empress. Fans react to the cast, visuals, and character styling. A closer look at the adaptation and early social media buzz.
Disney Plus has unveiled the first official look at its live action adaptation of The Remarried Empress, instantly igniting excitement among fans. During the Disney Plus Originals Preview 2025 at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, Shin Min Ah, Joo Ji Hoon, Lee Se Young, and Lee Jong Suk appeared in newly released still cuts that immediately drew massive global attention.
The two day APAC event showcased Disney Plus originals from various countries, but The Remarried Empress quickly emerged as one of the main highlights. With a star studded cast, a highly acclaimed webtoon source material, and a production team eager to share their creative vision, the series already feels poised to become one of the biggest titles of 2025.

Ambitious Adaptation and Warm Responses From the Cast
This drama is adapted from the global hit webtoon that has accumulated over 2.6 billion views and been translated into 10 languages. Shin Min Ah shared that she accepted the role of Empress Navier because she was curious how the beloved original would be transformed into a large scale series. Navier is a flawless empress who suddenly receives a divorce letter from the emperor and then requests permission to remarry, a complex emotional journey Shin Min Ah found compelling.
Joo Ji Hoon, portraying Emperor Sobieshu, said he was fascinated by how the mixed Eastern Western fantasy world of the webtoon would be executed in live action. According to him, the diversity of its world building is both rich and captivating. He also joked that he and his character only share similarities physically, since he definitely does not possess the emperor’s power and wealth.
Lee Se Young drew significant attention with her role as Rasta. She revealed that she had never starred in a fantasy series before, making this project an exciting new challenge. Her character begins as innocent but gradually becomes more ambitious, a growth arc she looks forward to portraying. She also shared how warm and humorous Shin Min Ah is in real life, which contrasts with her regal image in the drama.
Joo Ji Hoon added that although Lee Se Young is the youngest among them, she is the most experienced and often helps brighten the set. Filming atmosphere can shift from harmonious to intense depending on the scenes, but this dynamic is what makes their chemistry so strong and memorable.

Still Cuts Spark Massive Social Media Frenzy
The moment Disney Plus released the first still cuts, social media exploded. Fans discussed everything from casting accuracy and character visuals to styling choices and color palettes. Many were thrilled the production stayed faithful to the western inspired setting of the original webtoon instead of shifting it into an East Asian backdrop.
Some joked that the cast lineup is so expensive that costume quality might have taken the hit. Long time readers also expressed relief that the adaptation appears to maintain the spirit of the original novel and webtoon.
“Lee Seyoung with that level of acting skill plays as rastha, we are about to hate her like it’s our main job fr”
“so cute juji finally doing romance again, lee se young i first watched her in jang geum as a baby how will people handle her as trashta”
“Lee Seyoung is giving homewrecker of the century”
“Jongsuk is so perfect as Heinri”
“that cast lineup alone deserves its own throne”
“I’m so relieved they kept the original outfits and western setting instead of turning it East Asian”
“Casts so expensive they cut the budget for good costumes”
“Ahhh they should have made him blonde, red does not suit his skin tone or the character”
Public sentiment reflects high expectations. Many longtime fans have followed the story since its novel era, making the reveal of Navier, Sobieshu, Rasta, and Heinri in live action a major moment. Lee Jong Suk is receiving praise for his visual alignment with Heinri, while Lee Se Young is predicted to deliver a performance that will make her both adored and intensely disliked for all the right reasons.
With its star power, experienced production team, and strong source material, The Remarried Empress is shaping up to be one of Disney Plus’s most ambitious fantasy romance projects in 2025. Directed by Jo Soo Won and written by Yeo Ji Na and Hyun Chung Yeol, the drama is expected to elevate the genre and capture global attention when it premieres next year.

The character designs look so faithful to the webtoon! Lee Se Young is such a great actress, I know she’s going to make me have such mixed feelings about Rastha. This is going to be a huge hit for sure

Joo Ji Hoon always picks interesting roles. He says he’s nothing like the emperor in real life, but I think he’ll capture that arrogant charm perfectly. Let’s see if the acting can live up to the huge budget and hype.
Lee Se Young is about to make everyone love and hate her at the same time. Her acting range is insane and I know she’ll deliver
I swear this drama is about to ruin my free time. The visuals alone already got me hooked
You know what, Ju Ji Hoon in his arrogant role in The Trauma Code already had me snorting so many times. Like, what is this guy, the arrogance was crazy on point. I totally get what you mean.
The visuals are impressive. We’ll see if the story can keep up.
LEE JONG SUK IS BACK!!! And as Prince Heinri?!
This casting is a dream come true. I’ve loved him since I can remember. The whole cast is so perfect, I can’t wait to stream this all day in 2025!
Right?! My productivity is about to drop to zero in 2025
Between this and all the K-pop comebacks, I don’t know how I’ll manage my schedule! But who needs free time when we have this cast?
This cast lineup alone feels like a premium drama. Disney really went all in for this adaptation and it shows in every still released
The still cuts look so expensive and majestic! I already feel for Navier, getting that divorce letter. This is going to be one of those shows that makes me cry and yell at the screen, isn’t it? So ready for this emotional ride in 2025!
