K-Pop Demon Hunter Confirms Sequel With a 2029 Release

The thrilling news of K-Pop Demon Hunters 2 was confirmed by the studios, with a target release date set for 2029. This extended timeline is pretty standard for ambitious animated projects, ensuring the quality matches the sky-high expectations set by the first film.

The confirmation was part of a larger report that highlighted the film's incredible financial success for Sony Pictures.

Thanks to the movie's record-breaking performance on Netflix, Sony received a massive $15 million bonus on top of the $25 million it had already earned from the streaming giant for the distribution rights.

This brings Sony's total profit from the project to a cool $40 million, a testament to its blockbuster status.

But what about the story? While plot details are under wraps, the singing voices behind the group HUNTR/X which is EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami have already shared their sequel wishes.

EJAE expressed a desire for "more Korean traditional stuff, like traditional history, music, food," while Audrey Nuna wants to see the girls take their fight global, reflecting the film's real-world impact. Rei Ami, however, is curious about the lore, teasing, “I would love to see the origin story of how the girls got together. If it's not a prequel, then I want Gwi-ma (Lee Byung-hun) back.”

A Trophy Hunt: The Film's Stunning Five Grammy Nominations

The success story doesn't stop with streaming numbers and sequel plans. K-Pop Demon Hunters has made a stunning transition from a screen sensation to a major awards contender. The film's soundtrack has earned a total of five nominations for the upcoming Grammy Awards.

The powerhouse track "Golden," which also topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, leads the charge with four nominations: the coveted Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Best Song Written for Visual Media.

The film's overall soundtrack album scored a nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. As if that wasn't enough, David Guetta's electrifying remix of "Golden" also secured a nomination, showcasing the track's versatility and widespread appeal.

The members of HUNTR/X, EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, met the news of their Grammy nominations with a profound mix of pride, gratitude, and a sense of historic achievement.

EJEA described the nomination as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream and a powerful source of motivation, particularly meaningful to her as an Asian woman in a industry where representation is still growing.

Audrey Nuna framed the moment as a powerful culmination, noting that the recognition felt like an acknowledgment of not just their music, but their entire lived experiences, cultural backgrounds, and personal journeys.

The trio, who share a tight-knit "sorority" bond, emphasized the unique honor of celebrating this career-defining milestone together, marking a significant landmark for K-pop and artists celebrating Korean heritage on the Grammy stage.

While the Grammys for this eligibility period were just held in February 2025, all eyes are now on the next ceremony to see if HUNTR/X can convert these nominations into wins. It's a clear sign that the cultural impact of K-Pop Demon Hunters is resonating far beyond the screen, solidifying its place as a true multimedia powerhouse. So, while we patiently wait for 2029, the hunt for Grammy gold is officially on.

A sequel already? With $40 million profit, I’m not surprised. But let’s see if it lives up to the hype. The Grammy nominations are impressive, though I knew they had potential.

Anyone else hoping the sequel dives deeper into Korean mythology and traditional instruments like EJAE mentioned? That’d make it even more unique :south_korea::musical_note:

Ah, give the filmmakers a little credit, will ya? If a show makes my customers as happy as this one did, it’s earned its sequel. I’ll happily toast to that!

Yes! I was thinking the same thing! Imagine a scene with a pi-phat ensemble or a ghost from Thai folklore teaming up with them :ghost: :ghost: That would be epic cultural fusion! :south_korea: :thailand:
