Ahn Eun Jin and Jang Ki Yong lead SBS’s new romcom Kissing for No Reason.
A story of love, disguise, and irresistible chemistry.
The duo’s visuals promise a true midweek romance revival.

SBS is officially reviving its long-absent Wednesday–Thursday drama slot with a genre everyone’s been missing: the classic romantic comedy that’s warm, funny, and full of heart-fluttering misunderstandings. The new drama Kissing for No Reason! brings together two beloved stars, Jang Ki Yong and Ahn Eun Jin, whose pairing immediately caught the spotlight after their production conference on November 5 at the SBS Hall in Mokdong. The event quickly became the talk of social media, especially thanks to Eun Jin’s elegant pink satin dress and her effortless chemistry with Ki Yong during their playful interview with Esquire Korea.

The series follows Go Da Rim (Ahn Eun Jin), a single woman who disguises herself as a married mother to make ends meet, and Gong Ji Hyuk (Jang Ki Yong), a team leader who can’t forget a kiss they once shared. Their relationship unfolds through a whirlwind of comedic misunderstandings and emotional tension, creating a dopamine-charged romcom that critics are already calling “the comeback of classic K-romance.”

Ahn Eun Jin’s Dedication to Visuals and Chemistry

At the press conference, Ahn Eun Jin instantly became the center of attention, not just for her transformation but also for her thoughtful approach to her first leading role in a romantic comedy. She openly admitted that she worked hard to take care of her body and appearance to match the tone of the drama.

“I’m grateful for the compliments about how I’ve managed myself well,” she said.

“When I started this romcom, I thought about how I could look beautiful on screen so viewers would want a relationship as lovely as ours.”

The The Good Bad Mother actress shared that she never let her guard down throughout filming. Because her character constantly shifts between emotional states, she chose to focus on living in each scene rather than overanalyzing the dialogue. She also praised Jang Ki Yong, calling him “a man who seems cool and calm but is actually disarmingly pure-hearted.” Their chemistry, she said, “has everything audiences want to see: humor, sensuality, depth, and comfort.”

Director Kim Jae Hyun, known for A Thousand Won Lawyer, revealed that he had long wanted to work with Ahn Eun Jin, praising her sincerity and the way she “acts from moment to moment.” Jang Ki Yong returned the praise, saying that Eun Jin’s bright energy made improvising together “a joyful experience every single day.”

Social Media Hype: “Pink Goddess” and the Return of SBS Romcoms

As soon as the press conference ended, Ahn Eun Jin’s name began trending on X (Twitter). Fans flooded the platform with admiration, calling her “the pink princess,” “the pink goddess,” and “the woman with the most dazzling smile and shoulders.” Photos of her in the satin pink dress spread rapidly, while clips of her banter with Jang Ki Yong during their Esquire Korea segment only fueled the anticipation for the show’s premiere.

“Ahn Eun Jin in pink is dangerous, the camera clearly loves her.”

“If this drama becomes a hit, please credit Jang Ki Yong and Ahn Eun Jin for having great script sense.”

“We need them on a variety show. Their chemistry at the press conference was too good.”

“This couple has everything, romance, laughter, and warmth.”

Another reason fans are excited is that several of the lead actors, including Jang Ki Yong, Ahn Eun Jin, and Woo Da Bi, are from the same agency, UAA, which reportedly made their on-set chemistry even smoother. Kim Moo Joon, who plays Go Da Rim’s fake husband, said he accepted the role immediately after reading the script, calling it “realistic, funny, and touching.” Director Kim laughed when asked about the number of kiss scenes, saying, “I don’t remember exactly, maybe 10 times, maybe 20, probably more.”

For SBS, this project marks a major comeback for its midweek drama slot. PD Kim explained that he had always dreamed of directing a Wednesday–Thursday series and wanted to create “a mix of love, misunderstandings, and laughter that makes your heart race.” He also clarified that although the plot involves a fake marriage setup, the focus is not on scandal or adultery but on “people who long for love and hide behind small lies to survive.”

With its viral Esquire teaser, striking visuals from the press event, and pre-airing buzz from both Korean and international fans, Kissing for No Reason! is shaping up to be one of SBS’s most anticipated titles of the year. The drama premieres on Wednesday, November 12 at 9 p.m. KST on SBS and Netflix, and if the promised “dopamine romance” delivers, this could mark the revival of the golden era of Korean midweek romcoms.

Hmm, so many kiss scenes that even the director lost count?:thinking: They’re really pushing the ‘chemistry’ angle hard. I’ll believe it when I see it. Ahn Eun Jin is a good actress, but I hope the plot isn’t just relying on their visuals.

The way she smiled in that scene? Game over. If I were the team leader, the drama would end in one episode

Unnie, I get the skepticism but trust me, their press conference vibe was so natural! :sob: When two actors are from the same agency, the comfort level is just different. Ahn Eun Jin wouldn’t pick a fluff role, her script sense is amazing! Let’s stream with an open heart~ :sparkling_heart:

Ay, don’t be so cynical! :joy: A good romcom needs that musical rhythm, and chemistry is the beat. If the director lost count, it means the scenes felt natural, not forced. Ahn Eun Jin’s acting is the melody, the kisses are just the percussion. Trust the process! :fire:
