Tzuyang spoke about cybercrime at the assembly
She endured threats and extortion for years
Her courage aims to prevent future victims

Popular South Korean mukbang YouTuber Tzuyang, whose real name is Park Jeong won, has bravely stepped forward to detail the extensive cybercrime and extortion she endured for years. The creator, who boasts over 10 million subscribers, became a key witness at a National Assembly audit, using her platform to shed light on the severe and frightening reality of digital harassment and the so-called "cyber wrecker" industry. For the first time in a formal setting, she openly discussed the fear and helplessness that plagued her as a victim, marking a significant moment in the ongoing conversation about online safety and accountability.

Tzuyang spoke up during the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee's state audit on October 14, 2025. Appearing with her legal representative, attorney Kim Tae Yeon, she provided a powerful and emotional testimony that highlighted the inadequacies of current systems in protecting individuals from coordinated online attacks. Her presence at such a high-level government hearing was itself a statement, turning her personal ordeal into a catalyst for potential legislative change. Let's dive into the details of what she revealed.

Tzuyang Admits to Being a Victim of Cyber Crime

Serving as a witness to help lawmakers understand the severity of digital crimes, Tzuyang did not hold back in describing the psychological toll the experience took on her. She confessed to feeling utterly powerless in the face of relentless threats and financial demands.

"At the time, I was so scared and helpless that I couldn’t do anything," she stated, recalling the peak of the harassment.

"I endured numerous threats and demands for money over the years," Tzuyang continued.

Then, Tzuyang revealed that her gender played a significant role in her initial silence, as there were aspects of the threats she was deeply reluctant to reveal. The situation escalated far beyond simple threats.

"The reason I endured it was because, as a woman, I strongly resisted speaking out, even though I was the victim," she explained.

"However, these facts became known online, and instead of the actual facts, distorted and false information spread," Tzuyang recounted.

This is when the "cyber wreckers", YouTubers who generate revenue by creating maliciously fabricated content about celebrities, fully targeted her. She described a climate of fear so intense that it prevented her from seeking justice.

"I feared their retaliation," Tzuyang said, which stopped her from responding or even filing a lawsuit initially.

The extortion was severe and systematic, in one prominent case, a YouTuber known as "Gujeongyeok" extorted 55 million won from her by threatening her.

"If you give me the money, I won't make your private life and tax evasion allegations public."

Tzuyang Finally Finds Her Courage

After years of suffering in silence, Tzuyang found the strength to fight back, a decision that led her to the National Assembly floor. She credited the people around her for giving her the support needed to confront her tormentors.

"With the help of those around me, I began to fight back, one by one. I felt it was something I had to confront, not avoid, so I filed a lawsuit and continued to pursue it," Tzuyang shared.

This shift from victim to activist was driven by a desire to ensure others would not have to endure the same pain.

"I came here hoping that, based on the damage I experienced, no other victims will emerge," she told the committee members.

Her newfound courage culminated in concrete legal action. Last year, Tzuyang sued several YouTubers, including Gujeongyeok, Jeon Guk-jin, and Karakula, on charges of extortion and aiding and abetting extortion. This legal battle has already seen significant results, with Gujeongyeok being sentenced to three years in prison on appeal. Others involved, like Karakula, received suspended sentences.

Beyond the courtroom, Tzuyang also highlighted the practical hurdles victims face. She pointed out the inefficiency of platform reporting systems, noting that malicious videos spread incredibly quickly, reaching hundreds of thousands of views in a single day, making it nearly impossible to clear up misconceptions even after removal. She also mentioned the burdensome cost of litigation, acknowledging that while she could manage it with her platform, it would be extremely difficult for ordinary citizens, office workers, and students.

"I sincerely hope that you will create the necessary systems for society. When you leave a comment or message online, please remember that the other person has feelings, and that they experience joy and sorrow just as much as I do," Tzuyang concluded.

It breaks my heart that she had to suffer in silence just because she’s a woman. Society needs to do better to protect victims

This whole ordeal shows why online safety laws must evolve. The internet has changed, but protections haven’t kept up.
