Typhoon Family offers a story of resilience.
It stars Lee Junho and Kim Min-ha.
Lee Junho also praised Im Yoon Ah's recent work.

The entertainment world is buzzing with the impending arrival of "Typhoon Family," an upcoming tvN weekend drama poised to capture hearts with its blend of historical hardship and heartfelt resilience. The project was officially unveiled at a press conference on October 1st at The Link Hotel in Seoul’s Guro-gu, bringing together the creative forces behind the series, including director Lee Najung and the two lead stars, Lee Junho and Kim Minha.

The event, hosted by the seasoned broadcaster Park Kyunglim, set the stage for a drama that aims to do more than just tell a story; it seeks to reconnect a modern audience with the indomitable spirit of a generation that weathered one of South Korea's most formidable economic storms, the 1997 IMF crisis.

Lee Junho and Kim Min-ha Share Their Deep Connection to "Typhoon Family"

For the two leads, "Typhoon Family" is more than just another role, it’s a project they’ve connected with on a profoundly personal level. Lee Junho, who plays the privileged yet suddenly destitute Kang Tae-poong, found an unexpected parallel between his character's journey and his own recent life.

After launching his own management agency, Junho felt a deep resonance with Taepoong's narrative of being thrust into a leadership role with overwhelming responsibility.

“After starting my own agency, I felt a strong connection with Taepoong, who also had to suddenly take on responsibility,” he shared, revealing the personal investment he has in the character.

“The script felt both warm and realistic, balancing hope with sorrow. It inspired me to put everything into the role," Lee Junho continued.

His co-star, Kim Minha, was equally drawn to the project's emotional core, citing the script's inherent warmth as the primary magnet. To authentically embody her character, Oh Misun, a resourceful ace bookkeeper, Kim Minha immersed herself in the late 1990s, studying everything from period-specific hairstyles and speech patterns to the broader cultural nuances.

Despite their characters being polar opposites, Taepoong relies on instinct while Misun trusts only logic, the actors highlighted the incredible synergy that developed between them. Junho described their dynamic as a “perfect balance of spontaneity and logic,” with their ad-libbing sessions bringing natural humor and depth to the story.

“Our synergy made unexpected moments shine on screen. I felt supported and inspired throughout," Kim Minha added.

Lee Junho Sends Congratulations to 'The Tyrant's Chef'

As "Typhoon Family" prepares to fill the coveted weekend drama slot, it naturally follows the resoundingly successful "The Tyrant's Chef," which recently concluded its run with impressive viewership numbers.

Lee Junho took a moment during the press conference to acknowledge the success of his former co-star, Im Yoon Ah, who headlined that drama. The two had previously shared the screen in the hit romantic comedy "King the Land."

Lee Junho revealed that the cast remains close, maintaining an active group chat where they celebrated each other's achievements.

“The 'King the Land' cast has a group chat. We exchanged congratulations and told each other that 'The Tyrant's Chef' was fun,” he shared.

“Since 'The Tyrant's Chef' was a global success, I think there will be anticipation for our follow-up drama. I feel like I've been receiving positive energy,” Lee Junho continued.

This passing of the baton adds an extra layer of anticipation for the new series. "Typhoon Family" will tell the story of Kang Taepoong, a young man who unexpectedly becomes the president of a bankrupt trading company with no money, staff, or products to sell, and his partnership with the logical and resilient Oh Misun as they navigate the turbulent economic landscape. Audiences won’t have to wait long to witness this story of struggle and hope, as "Typhoon Family" is set to premiere on October 11th at 9:10 p.m. KST on tvN.

Typhoon Family’s plot about the IMF crisis is so relatable. Lee Junho’s character development reminds me of BamBam’s growth in GOT7. Proud to see Asian stories being told! :fire:
