Hwang In Youp and Hyeri team up in new rom-com Dream To You.
A story of forgotten dreams and love rekindled in adulthood.
Fans react with excitement and mixed opinions online.

K-dramas are once again bringing a fresh new pairing to the screen. Actor Hwang In Youp and actress Hyeri have officially been confirmed as the leads in the upcoming romantic comedy Dream To You (literal title). The project has already set social media abuzz with a mix of excitement and skepticism about its storyline. With the writer and director behind it both known for popular hits, this drama immediately landed on fans’ watchlists even before production wrapped.

A story of forgotten dreams and love left unfinished

Dream To You is written by Jung Eun Bi, the creative mind behind hit dramas Goblin and Doom at Your Service. The story revolves around Woo Soo Bin, a genius film director who returns to Korea after achieving his big dreams abroad, and Joo Yi Jae, a passionate reporter who once shared those same dreams but now feels stuck in a life that has lost its spark. The two reunite through an unfinished film from their past, revisiting their youthful ambitions and rewriting a love that was left unresolved.

Hwang In Youp will play Woo Soo Bin, a man who once lived a life strictly designed by his parents but broke free in his twenties to debut spectacularly as an award-winning filmmaker at international film festivals. Hyeri will portray Joo Yi Jae, a driven and talented reporter known for her stamina, smooth-talking wit, social skills, and mastery of local dialects. Despite her outward success and popular recurring segment under her own name, she quietly carries a sense of emptiness after abandoning her dream of becoming a director. Meeting Woo Soo Bin again forces her to confront the dream she once tried to bury.

Hwang In Youp expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m happy and thrilled to show a new side of myself through the role of Woo Soo Bin. We are working hard so that viewers can enjoy a great production, so please look forward to the synergy and chemistry between Hyeri and me.” Hyeri also shared, “I believe I’ll be able to show many different sides of myself through the role of Joo Yi Jae. I’m preparing with excitement, so please stay tuned.”

Mixed reactions from fans and online communities

The drama’s announcement immediately sparked lively discussions among K-drama fans. On Reddit, many expressed enthusiasm about this new pairing, especially praising Hyeri’s strength in rom-com roles and the fresh energy Hwang In Youp brings.

“The plot sounds soo good! I’m keeping my hopes on the writer - fantastic dramas under her name right there!”

“Very much looking forward to this pairing and the actors being able to play 30 year olds!!”

“I can see the dynamic in my head, probably a funnier and more dynamic version of the chemistry we saw in Family by Choice.”

“OMG two of one of my most fav actors/actresses… I’m so excited.”

However, not all reactions were positive. On X (Twitter), some voiced doubts about whether this would just become another overhyped drama without a solid story. Others admitted they initially thought the news was about dating rumors rather than a drama announcement.

“Another overhype drama that’s going to happen!!”

“Can’t they produce a drama that I can watch enjoyable.”

“Kaget kirain dating broooow.”

“Shibal I wanted her in action drama.. I don’t like that feminine actor 😭”

Despite the criticism, support from fans remained strong. Many were thrilled to see Hyeri return to rom-com and hoped Hwang In Youp would finally get a happy ending instead of another unrequited love story like in his previous roles.

“Finallyyyy Hyeri is back in a romcom! Hwang In Youp is great as well, I can’t wait!”

“I hope this time Hwang In Youp got happy ending and not another unrequited love roles again.”

“Yaaay!!! I just finished True Beauty and my heart hurt for him so much!! Can’t wait to see him as male lead 😍”

Production for Dream To You is scheduled to begin in mid-September 2025 and wrap up by late January to early February 2026, giving hope that the drama will premiere as planned.

Dream To You promises a heartfelt mix of nostalgia for youthful dreams and a realistic look at love in your thirties. With a renowned writer and two leads with strong fan bases, this series has the potential to become a warm yet emotional rom-com. Still, the mixed reactions show that expectations are high, and the production team will need to prove that the story goes beyond the usual romantic clichés.

Are you excited to see the chemistry between Hwang In Youp and Hyeri in this drama? Or do you feel hesitant, worried it might fall into a predictable storyline?

My daughter will be thrilled about this news. She’s a big fan of both actors. I’ll probably end up watching it with her. Hope the story is as good as Crash Landing on You.

Anyone else surprised this isn’t a dating rumor but an actual drama announcement? :joy:

Hyeri’s reporter character sounds so real , ambitious yet struggling quietly. Can’t wait to see her bring that to life
