Jeon Somi is set to make her acting debut in the horror-thriller Perfect Girl. The film, directed by Hong Won-ki, combines K-pop’s intense trainee culture with suspense. Fans are buzzing while critics debate the bold concept.
Jeon Somi, the solo singer known for her energetic and colorful stage presence, is officially stepping into the world of acting. On September 4, The Black Label announced that Somi will make her acting debut in the horror-thriller film Perfect Girl. The project is directed by Hong Won-ki of Johnny Bros, recognized for Goedam, and produced by Badlands and Thunder Road Film, the studio behind the John Wick franchise. Filming is scheduled to begin this October.

Perfect Girl tells the story of fierce competition among K-pop trainees vying for limited spots to debut in a new girl group. With only four seats left, the sudden appearance of a new trainee intensifies the tension. The plot turns into a chilling mystery as trainees face dangerous threats one after another. Written by Lynn Q. Yu, the script has been described as a mix of Scream and Black Swan. The film will also feature six original tracks, though it has not been confirmed whether Somi will take part in the soundtrack.
Joining Somi in the cast are Arden Cho, best known for her role in Teen Wolf and as a voice actress in K-pop Demon Hunters, and Adeline Rudolph, recently seen in Mortal Kombat II. This international collaboration raises expectations that Perfect Girl may become one of the most unique horror-thriller projects blending K-pop culture with cinematic suspense.
Public Excitement and Mixed Reactions
For Somi, this move isn’t sudden. Back in 2017, she was praised by several Korean directors for her acting auditions. Eight years later, a major overseas offer finally secured her a lead role, marking her official debut as an actress. Fans quickly flooded social media with excitement.
One Instagram user wrote:
“YESS FINALLY SOMI DEBUT ACTING! … she always looked perfect to be an actress, and finally her dream came true huhu somii ❤️”
Other supportive comments followed:
“GO HOLLYWOOD ACTRESS JEON SOMI 🔥😍”
“Wishing you all the best, Somi 😍👏🔥”
“Woaaahhh this is what we’ve been waiting for, debuting straight in Hollywood 😍😍😍😍”
On Twitter (X), however, reactions were more divided. Some questioned the relevance of mixing K-pop with horror:
“First I haven’t heard of Jeon, Arden Cho and Adeline, were they really pop stars? Sure this is not just another flop? Who’s directing this pls”
Others compared the film to cult classics:
“‘Scream’ meets ‘Black Swan’… sounds like Perfect Blue.”
Still, many shared humorous or optimistic takes:
“Arden Cho is about to be on a legendary run that started with kpop demon hunters.”
“Ok I’m ready. She better not break up the band.”
For Somi’s fans, this debut is proof that her career is expanding beyond the stage. After the release of her second EP Chaotic & Confused in August—featuring the lead track Closer, which fans described as dark and horror-inspired—Somi is now ready to showcase another side of herself on the big screen.
Despite mixed opinions, this move marks a new chapter in Jeon Somi’s journey. From K-pop idol to actress, Perfect Girl will serve as both a challenge and an opportunity to prove she can exceed public expectations.

A horror movie about trainees? Sounds like a desperate attempt to be unique. I’ll believe it when I see it.
The concept sounds intense! Hope it shows the real pressure trainees face. Somi will understand that world well
I think it is a unique mix
But if anyone understands that world, it’s Somi. I think she’ll bring something real to it.
Finally Somi’s dream came true! From idol to actress, I’m so proud of her
I think she will, her stage presence is already so intense

People who keep leaving negative comments, can you just stay quiet for now? Let’s wait and see how it turns out first instead of talking too much.
Whether people like it or not, Somi is breaking boundaries. Can’t wait to see her on the big screen
I’m very interested in the acting quality. Somi has a bright presence, so a thriller is a bold choice. I hope she does well.
Saw a clip of Somi performing. Reminds me of a young Britney Spears, Asian edition. Now that’s a star. Best of luck to her in the film!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but let’s all just take a breath and be kind. I choose to be excited and supportive! We can all judge it later, but for now, let’s cheer her on
Oh my gosh, Jim, you’re so right! She has that same incredible star power and stage presence. I can totally see the comparison!
