In the fast-paced world of K‑pop, it often takes just one unexpected clip to spark a massive debate. Recently, two familiar names—Jimin of BTS and actress Song Da‑eun—have dominated headlines and social media trends. Rumors, speculation, and heated discussions erupted after a brief video surfaced online, thrusting the pair into a spotlight that extends beyond their work.

A Video That Shocked the Public

In late August 2025, the Korean entertainment industry was jolted by a brief video that actress Song Da‑eun posted on her personal TikTok account. The clip shows Song waiting in an apartment corridor and then reacting with surprise when Jimin, member of the global powerhouse BTS, steps out of the elevator.

He appears startled and says, “Did you know I was coming? I came here on purpose without telling you,” before engaging in a short conversation .

Although Song deleted the video almost immediately, copies quickly spread across online communities and social media. Making matters worse, the pair had already been linked by dating rumors since 2022. BigHit Music, Jimin’s agency, has remained silent despite media requests for clarification . The absence of an official response fueled further speculation, particularly since Song Da‑eun is best known as a participant from Heart Signal 2 (2018) and has appeared in dramas such as Can’t Live Without Losing and Once Again, while Jimin recently finished his military service and is preparing his solo comeback album in the United States.

The clip seems to have been recorded in a private space without Jimin’s permission, raising ethical questions. As public debate raged, another viral post on X (formerly Twitter) added fuel to the fire. In that post, an anonymous user claimed—citing Chinese sources—that Jimin and Song Da‑eun had been living together since 2021 and that she planned to reveal their relationship because she wants to get married. The post ended with the statement “Chinese intelligence doesn’t play,” along with a skull emoji. This rumor spread quickly despite the lack of supporting evidence.

The sensational claims triggered strong reactions. Fans and internet users weighed in with sharp criticism and some empathy for the individuals involved. Here are some netizen comments you can quote:

“If he’s in a relationship with her then that’s not a problem because both are adults so c’mon but wtf is wrong with this girl coming out of nowhere and posting a video like this !!! A relationship that’s private should be revealed only when both parties are ready for it !! Creep”

“I always believe in Chinese sources. Their level of finding out information is out of our league. And the news will come to public now or later. Remember rumor about song song couple, it’s started with them finding out the couple not wearing wedding ring.”

“I was too shocked when I saw this news all over the places. As an ARMY, I support each member’s romantic relationship. Really. But, I was disappointed when their partners couldn’t restrain themselves to keep their privacy. Like WTF GIRLLL!!!!”

“rumors from c-netz are sometimes true, iykyk😃”

“中国粉丝从来没这么说过!我们一直在澄清他们之间的关系,从来没有认为他们在一起过” (This netizen points out that Chinese fans never said such things, and they have always denied that the two are together.)

These comments show how netizens are divided: some think the rumor might be true; others insist the claims are baseless. Issues of privacy and personal freedom clash with a public hungry for details, and some fans rush to defend their idols while others push the narrative further.

Public Debate: Privacy, Transparency and Fan Reactions

This controversy touches on two major issues: the boundary of a celebrity’s private life versus the demand for transparency, and how unverified rumors can influence a star’s reputation. Many fans expressed disappointment toward Song Da‑eun for what they see as a violation of Jimin’s privacy. Others believe that Song may have been pushed to her limit after years of enduring dating rumors and constant attacks from strangers online.

Harsh comments condemn releasing the video without consent:

“This is basically a hidden camera,” wrote one X user.

Another said, “There has to be a limit. If they’re dating, let them announce it themselves.”

These reactions illustrate fans’ sensitivity to privacy issues. However, there are more moderate voices. Some netizens sympathize with Song, who has been accused of generating dating rumors herself for attention. During an Instagram Live broadcast in June 2024, she sobbed and said, “Go ahead—screenshot everything and post it. It’s all because of you people,” revealing the mental strain she was under.

Beyond the video, another X post has circulated, accusing Jimin of hiding a relationship and giving specific details about his apartment location. The following comments illustrate how netizens responded to that accusation:

https://twitter.com/roxicon/status/1960442931690836343?s=46

“Do they love each other or not?”

“Ik they aren’t together but the reaction of the fandom on him dating a woman??😭 weird as fuckkk”

“Jimin keeps his privacy so bad and this woman easily exposes what basement Jimin parks his car, which is the floor of his home, and even surprises him in front of the elevator. What if his parents came with him? She gives sasaeng very good information, good job woman”

“They live together lol. Each floor is heavily secured and Jimin wouldn’t be able to get off without an access key. Also he’s like 30. That’s married with kids age.”

“This is an old video and at the time they were neighbours.”

“I believe they dated a few years back but he dumped her because she kept invading his privacy by posting them online. This video is also old because he isn’t this slim anymore after the military.”

Beyond the video, another widely shared post from a K‑pop news aggregator recirculated an old livestream where Song Da‑eun broke down in tears, explaining that she had been harassed by some BTS fans because of dating rumors. The caption noted how the clip had resurfaced amidst the latest controversy. This post prompted a new wave of discussion, with many focusing their criticism on ARMY, the BTS fandom, rather than on Song or Jimin themselves.

Netizens responding to this post were particularly vocal about the behavior of certain fans. These comments, shared below, highlight the growing frustration directed at toxic fan culture:

“This is why ARMY are the most hated fanbase on earth.”

“I just thought it would be someone hotter than that if he were to date a girl. She looks just old 🤭.”

“Imagine ‘liking,’ ‘loving,’ and ‘supporting’ an artist and then making the people they love feel like this. If that isn’t the most horrible love and support ever, I don’t know what is. Y’all HATE this man.”

“Finally, K‑netizens realize that the purple fandom always bullies the women rumored to be with their oppa. Even if there’s clear evidence, they’ll still deny it and call them cosplayers, stalkers, etc. Just accept that your oppa is dating—he’s already in his 30s and you still think he’s an innocent kid.”

“Why are netizens like that? They’re so noisy that people aren’t even allowed to date. Artists are human too, you know.”

“Why are they harassing her? Surely they don’t think they stand a chance with him, right? 😭”

“This is why nobody respects BTS anymore.”

“What can you expect from that fandom other than this?”

“Normalize idols having healthy relationships with the opposite sex.”

“Never beating the worst fandom allegations.”

These narratives show the range of netizen opinions. Some question whether there is any romantic relationship at all, others criticize how fandoms react, some worry about personal safety and privacy (saying Song revealed too much information), while others believe the video is outdated or that the rumored relationship ended years ago. In particular, many are directing anger at what they see as toxic or hypocritical behavior within the ARMY fandom.

With all the turmoil, the public is waiting to see what BigHit Music will do—whether it will issue an official statement to deny or confirm the relationship or take legal action over the privacy breach. Ultimately, this incident shows how easily a private moment can become a public controversy, and how online communities play a major role in shaping the narrative. The article encourages readers to stay critical: respect official statements over unverified posts, and remember that idols are human beings deserving of privacy and consideration.

What in the world was that lass thinking, posting a video like that? That’s not on. Even my regulars at the pub have more sense than that

Maybe the guy should make announcement or clarification

As an ARMY since 2015, this is so heartbreaking to see :sob: We should always protect Jimin’s privacy. Let’s wait for BigHit’s statement and not spread rumors #RespectJimin

I get what you mean, but it’s really not that simple  BigHit and the members are always so private about personal stuff. If he clarifies, it might just make the rumors bigger. Sometimes silence is the best way to protect everyone’s privacy. Let’s just trust him and support BTS upcoming album! :purple_heart:

People need to stop treating celebrities like they owe us every detail. Bullying this woman isn’t okay, whether the rumors are true or not.

I’m so confused. So the video was uploaded without Jimin’s consent? Okay, if that’s the case then it really does count as a privacy violation. But the girl cried because she was being bullied? Huh?? Seriously, I’m confused.

Fajar_Rizky's avatar

What I understand is that the girl was attacked because she allegedly acted without Jimin’s consent. Isn’t that a violation of privacy?

NaRi_Min's avatar

This girl is so obvious, trying to get famous by using Jimin’s name. Disgusting :face_exhaling:

If this was Lisa or BamBam, Thai fans would be investigating properly, not attacking anyone. This is just messy. Why can’t people just mind their own business?

Back in the US, celebrity couples often go public and it’s no big deal! But over there, they stay so secret. All we ever get are these ‘close friend said’ rumors with no real proof. It must be so hard to never have anything be just yours😔

I don’t really understand what happened. But seeing her cry on live, why?? For what? If you don’t want any risks, then don’t do anything that carries a risk.

Riko_Ramadhan's avatar

That’s true. Seeing Jimin and the agency stay silent, I think this video was indeed uploaded on one side’s decision. I saw other posts on X, but the comments weren’t bullying, they were questioning why the video was uploaded so suddenly. The concern was more about privacy.
