A Shift in Format: From Two Groups to One Global Supergroup

Originally, "BOYS II PLANET" was designed to debut two separate groups, "BOYS II PLANET K" (Korean trainees) and "BOYS II PLANET C" (global contestants).
However, in a dramatic twist, Mnet announced a format change in May 2025, merging the two competitions into one unified survival show that will produce a single global K-pop boy group.
“We thoroughly explained the changes to the participants and their agencies and received their understanding. We will do our best to highlight the contestants’ growth and charm while delivering high-quality content,” A show representative explained.
This shift aims to heighten the drama and narrative immersion, allowing trainees from different backgrounds to compete directly against each other before uniting as one final group.
Star-Studded Judges & Expert Trainers Elevate the Competition

To guide the contestants, "BOYS II PLANET" assembled an elite lineup of trainers and masters, including:
- Vocal Masters: Lee Seok Hoon, Kim Jae Joong, Lim Han Byul, Hyolyn
- Dance Masters: Kinky, Kany, Jrick, Baek Gu Young
- Rap Master: JUSTHIS
- Special Idol Masters: ZEROBASEONE’s Sung Han Bin & Zhang Hao
The show’s global appeal is further amplified by its diverse contestant pool, with 150+ initial participants (later reduced to 80 for the main competition). The June 12 profile reveal introduced fans to trainees from South Korea, China, Japan, and beyond, setting the stage for a truly international showdown.
As "BOYS II PLANET" continues, it solidifies its place in the trend of high-stakes idol survival programs, following the success of its predecessor, "BOYS PLANET", which launched ZEROBASEONE. With live voting, shocking eliminations, and a star-powered mentor team, the show is shaping up to be 2025’s most talked-about K-pop survival series.
Will your favorite trainee make the final lineup? Only time—and fan votes—will tell.

Interesting how survival shows create such emotional narratives. The pressure these boys face… reminds me of J-drama character arcs. Fighting!
Lee Sang Won with 12M votes?! DESERVED!
His stage presence reminds me of Jungkook in their rookie days. Can’t wait to see his next performance! #BOYSIIPLANET
Rooting for Masato (rank 8)! Finally a Japanese trainee getting recognition
Jang Han Eum at rank 12? Overrated. I’ve seen better vocals from eliminated trainees. Mnet’s editing is clearly favoring certain contestants again…
Can someone explain how this voting works? It seems so intense but really exciting, reminds me of when I first discovered K-dramas! Do the trainees get to act in dramas too later?
I’m checking my votes every day, can’t risk my favorites getting eliminated next round
The voting works mainly through fan votes on the Mnet Plus app. Fans can vote for a set number of trainees per day, and the votes determine who advances each round. It’s intense because every vote counts, especially for the lower-ranked trainees. As for acting, some trainees may pursue dramas later, but it depends on their agencies and career paths, survival shows usually focus on singing, dancing, and overall idol skills first.
Lee Sang Won taking first place with over 12 million votes is insane! He really deserves it.
I agree with you. I guess M-Net’s ‘disease’ is really hard to cure… or maybe even impossible
The competition is getting so intense! I can’t believe some fan favorites already got eliminated
