Knives and swords collide in time,
A chef and a king, fate intertwined,
Where flavors rule and power hides.

tvN’s newest weekend drama The Tyrant’s Chef (English title: Bon Appétit, Your Majesty) is officially set to premiere on August 23 at 9:10 PM KST. This fantasy romantic comedy follows the story of Yeon Ji-young (Im Yoon-ah), a genius chef who is mysteriously thrown back in time just as she’s reaching the peak of her career. There, she encounters King Lee Heon (Lee Chae-min), a ruthless tyrant with an extraordinary sense of taste. Ji-young’s only way to survive? Satisfy the king’s demanding palate.

In a teaser titled “King’s Chef” released on July 24, viewers are given a glimpse of two clashing worlds: the kitchen and the royal court, flavor and power. In a dramatically lit visual, Ji-young dons her white chef uniform, clutching a skewer in hand, while Lee Heon stands regally in a red dragon robe, wielding a long sword. Their intense stare-down captures the beginning of a complicated relationship, where blades and knives become metaphors for life and death—and food is the only bridge that connects them.

Lee Chae-min takes over the role of King Lee Heon, replacing Park Sung-hoon, who stepped down during production. Despite the casting change, Chae-min’s portrayal in the teaser earned praise for exuding both intimidation and charisma. On the other hand, YoonA’s Ji-young stands her ground with composure, resilience, and sharp resolve—not just in the kitchen, but against the deadly power dynamics of the palace. The drama promises a rich emotional journey through the flavors of life: salty, bitter, and sweet.

Actor Kim Hyun-mok (KBS media)

Adding more depth to the story is Kang Han-na, who plays Kang Mok-joo—a royal concubine known for her beauty and talents in poetry, music, and art. She’s the only woman who can tame the king’s darkest rage. Yet beneath her gentle smile lies a fierce ambition to manipulate power for her own gain. Official stills capture her duality: warm and delicate before the king, yet sharp-eyed and calculating when alone. With Kang Han-na’s proven strength in portraying emotionally complex characters, Mok-joo is set to become a pivotal figure in the palace’s internal conflict.

Also joining the cast is Kim Hyun-mok, playing Min Sook-soo, the youngest member of the royal kitchen, Suragan. His life takes a dramatic turn when Ji-young, a female chef with unmatched talent, enters the male-dominated kitchen. Their interactions bring a refreshing warmth to the otherwise tense palace setting. Known for his roles in Wedding Battle, Welcome to Samdal-li, and Judge from Hell, Kim Hyun-mok is ready to shine in this light yet lively historical drama.

Behind the scenes, celebrity support has also helped fuel public excitement. On July 24, YoonA shared a heartwarming social media post after receiving a coffee truck from senior actress Son Ye-jin. The banner read, “A summer café for actress Im YoonA and the staff of ‘The Tyrant’s Chef’ – from Son Ye-jin.” In her caption, YoonA wrote, “No words needed—Ye-jin unnie is simply the best,” while also promoting Ye-jin’s new film Inevitably. Along with the coffee, Son Ye-jin penned a cheerful message: “Let’s beat the heat with a bright smile, Yoona. You got this!”

YoonA also received a food truck from actor Jin Seon-kyu, her co-star in Confidential Assignment. She responded with a heart-shaped hand gesture and the caption, “The food was delicious and gave me so much energy.” These heartfelt gestures from fellow actors added a warm, supportive atmosphere behind this major production.

Beyond the entertainment industry, excitement for the drama is also bubbling across social media. On X (formerly Twitter), user

@m_leixma posted a teaser image alongside the caption, “I can’t wait 🥰 ‘Bon Appétit, Your Majesty’ Chef Yoona 7/24/2025.”

The teaser shows Ji-young cooking in a professional kitchen with a serious expression as flames blaze behind her—a powerful visual that highlights her character’s fierce dedication and skill.

@scara_tsel, shared, “Hoo~ Bon Appétit, Your Majesty is on Netflix ☝🏻 with Hanna & Ichae, you should check it out,”

reflecting the growing international buzz and the excitement surrounding the chemistry between YoonA, Lee Chae-min, and Kang Han-na. Even before its premiere, the drama is already building momentum online, signaling its potential as one of the biggest K-dramas of the second half of 2025.

With a fresh storyline, stunning visuals, a talented cast, and enthusiastic support from both celebrities and fans, The Tyrant’s Chef delivers a flavorful mix of romance and power, chef and king, ambition and survival. Are you ready to taste what this drama has to offer?

YoonA’s in historical drama and emotional range in stills alone has me hooked. If the OST is half as good as ‘Hotel Del Luna,’ this’ll be a masterpiece

Kang Han-na playing another manipulative beauty? Predictable. But if anyone can pull it off, it’s her. Still, hope the plot isn’t just pretty faces :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
